This might be a good time to remind everyone that in the event that school is cancelled for winter weather the library will be closed. This is to have a uniform policy in place and to keep everyone, especially anyone walking, safe. Take an extra book home so you don’t run out when Old Man Winter pays us a visit.
Publishers are usually a little slow with new books in January so this would be a great time to pick up some of those books on your someday list……perhaps read/reread a classic or see if you have missed any of your favorite author’s new books. It’s also a good time to try out a new genre, perhaps look over the large print section or the Christian fiction section for a new author. Adults don’t forget to look in the Young Adult section, many good reads there that adults like as well as kids. Anytime is a good time to read aloud to the kids around you. We can also go on silo/ill (Inter Library Loan) and get books for you for $2 to help defray the price of postage. Winter is a good time to try something new, there’s no penalty for bringing back a book unfinished if you didn’t enjoy it, but you never know you might just find your new favorite author.
Have you been looking over the new data bases, I have been enjoying the Gale Pages Iowa data bases on Gardening, Landscaping and Horticulture and also the Culinary Arts one. Go to the web page www.ackley.lib.ia.us and check out all of the resources, all you need is a library card.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Morning Book Discussion of February 12th at 11 a.m. (the Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion) and Toddler Time on February 10th at 10 a.m., After School Friends on Wednesday’s at 2 p.m. rounds out February.
