Check It Out!

We finally have our “Welcoming, Accessible & Usable Parking and Sidewalk!”  Thanks to King Construction Inc., the City of Ackley and the Hardin County Community Endowment Grant for making it possible.  We have a few more things to do, such as painting the lines and doing some landscaping that will have to wait for spring but the parking and sidewalk are usable and we’ll get the drop box moved soon.  The two ADA handicap parking stalls are just a little to the north of the center and will have a center space marked off for wheelchair lifts.

It’s hard to believe that there is less than 3 weeks to Christmas!!  On December 20th at 2 p.m. After School Friends will be celebrating with a change of pace – Book Bingo.

Since the library will be closed from December 23rd through December 26th this year we will be having our ‘annual’ tea on Friday, December 29th instead and celebrating with the theme New Year Renewed, Tea Time.  Plan to stop by that day and join us for a cup of something hot and a snack (I promise it won’t be leftover Christmas cookies.)

The January morning book discussion books are in – The Magic Room by Jeffrey Zaslow.  If your New Year’s Resolution includes joining a book discussion this would be a good time to start.  The evening group will meet on January 17 and their first book of the year is Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler.

We hope you are all trying to use the new data bases that we have added this year.  Going on a trip to a foreign country or always wanted to learn a new language, check out Transparent Language.  Need a reference book like Britannica Encyclopedia, Dictionary of the English Language, Medical Dictionary Thesaurus or Harvard Medical School Videos along with 3,581,803 full text magazine articles – try Credo.  The Gale Pages will give you information on topics like gardening, business, health, fitness, history, culinary arts, recipes and also includes the Chilton Library.

Don’t forget to take time for A Cup of Christmas Tea and a good book as you celebrate this December.  On behalf of the Library Staff we want to wish you a Very Merry Christmas!  Retha, Sue, Barb & Katie
